12:00 pm - Here it is -- it's by Raphael, not Da Vinci, anyway.
THIS is the unicorn I was looking for.

11:31 am - Hey! I never knew about THIS painting!
Yay! Finding information about paintings is fun.

Of course Da Vinci painted a unicorn. Why not?

Of course, this is NOT the unicorn I was looking for......

3:35 pm - WOW!
I love this ... Now I just need to find out when they are reading folk tales.
Even better are the jokes, but even better than THAT is the fact that if you read 7 of these stories in a row you will become enlightened.

3:34 pm - Do you know what you can't do?
You can't edit THIS entry. Probably 'cause certain high school students were adding their teacher's names......

I found that out by reading about euphemisms.

And I learned a cool new phrase. Euphemism Treadmill. Because, I'm a teacher see, and we've noticed that children are no longer "retarted" they are "developmentally delayed," which will stick UNTIL "developmentally delayed" becomes the insult, and then we'll just change it again. Which is not a bad thing, really.

In the mean time, the computer named Titus is dead.

so try this word problem:

If you have 25 computers for 27 noisy impatient 4rth graders and 2 are dead and 1 has a mystery login that no one knows, how the hell do you plan on teaching "test-taking skills" ???

DEAD COMPUTER:

Titus. Thank you "thermal event"

UNUSEABLE COMPUTER:

Victoria. If I could JUST get I.T. to TALK to me about it.....THEY can put in the right username/password, and then WRITE IT DOWN and I could USE the damn thing!!

Earnest: Keeps freezing & needing reboots
Maud: Keeps freezing & needing reboots

AND NOW I'M ABOUT TO TEAR MY HAIR OUT 'CAUSE

Rhoda: Bad enough she has no sound, but now SHE is giving me the "thermal event" error message.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Of course, I DID name the computers after a bunch of children who died, so I guess I have no one to blame but myself......

Stupid Vandals.

(Actually I was irritated 'cause I wanted to know WHAT was being written -- something racist, maybe? But you can tell what was written. Probably just a particularly annoying class in a tagging war during a research assignment.)

2:38 pm - I may have to move here:
And it's called "Narnia," in Latin.

But I'm NOT moving to the Isle of Sky. Lee can tell you why.

Also, a narnia is a bug, too. A coreidae, to be exact. I may have to write a story about a kid with her pet narnia.

1:56 pm - I demand to be called
The Greatest Computer Teacher In The World

Because I'm introducing the vocabulary word "blog"
this as the corresponding activity.

There is SO MUCH I could do with just this one site --- so much reading comprehension opportunities -- and state games -- and tying in with a state they are reading about -- all except Oklahoma, of course.

But LORD I need to slow down with these little ones and introduce some vocabulary words: mouse, double click, right click, internet, to begin with......

11:00 am - Quotes
The work of a teacher (is) exhausting, complex, idiosyncratic, never twice the same.....

--William Ayres

Who is William Ayres? No idea. But I like this quote so much I'm cutting it into little bitty parts and posting it one part at a time.
